Cloud Migration & Disaster Recovery with vCloud Availability

Migrate your workloads to the cloud and back with speed, security, and minimal disruption. vCloud Availability ensures your business remains operational, even in the event of a disaster.

Seamless Cloud Migration

vCloud Availability is a powerful VMware solution that simplifies migration and disaster recovery (DR) between your on-premises vSphere/vCloud Director environment and a provider's vCloud Director cloud.

Move virtual machines (VMs) easily and cost-effectively with maximum security, ensuring quick recovery and continuous business processes.

vCloud Availability helps you solve critical business challenges:

  • Flexible Migration: Securely migrate VMs to, from, and between cloud environments.
  • Robust Disaster Recovery: Automate replication with flexible RPO/RTO options for fast recovery.
  • Centralized Management: Control replication and migration directly from the familiar vSphere interface.
  • Hybrid & Multi-Cloud: Build and manage a resilient hybrid or multi-cloud strategy.

How It Works

Our proven migration process is designed for minimal downtime and zero data loss.

1
Assessment & Planning: We audit your IT infrastructure and prepare a detailed migration plan.
2
Initial Replication: A duplicate of your VM is created in the target cloud environment.
3
Continuous Synchronization: Only changed data is synced, with an RPO as low as 5 minutes.
4
Final Cutover: The local VM is shut down, and the cloud-based machine is activated, ensuring a smooth transition.

We support both cold and hot migration strategies to meet your specific needs.

FAQ

How do I activate the vCAV service?
Please contact your Cloud4U account manager or submit a request to our technical support team to enable the service.

How is the service billed?
Billing is based on two factors:
  • The number of virtual machines reserved for replication.
  • The total amount of data transfer (exchange traffic) between your sites.

How do I manage the service?
Once activated, a dedicated vCloud Availability management section will become available within your vCloud Director interface.

Can I create replication tasks myself?
Yes. You can create replication tasks within the limits configured by Cloud4U. These limits can be increased upon request to meet your needs.

What is a backup data center in this context?
It is a resilient copy of your virtual machine, maintained through continuous replication. If your primary VM fails, you can immediately switch over to this standby copy with minimal data loss.

How does vCloud Availability work and what technology does it use?
It is powered by VMware vCloud Availability, which uses vSphere Replication technology to asynchronously copy data between sites.

What software is required on my end?
Requirements depend on the migration type:
  • On-Premises to Cloud: Requires a local vCenter Server (6.0 or higher) and the deployment of a vCAV appliance.
  • Cloud-to-Cloud: Requires access to a vCloud Director installation.

Can I use vCAV as shared file storage?
No. vCAV is designed for disaster recovery and live migration of virtual machines, not file storage. For shared file storage, we recommend our Cloud Storage service.
